Sawyer's 1st Birthday

My brother has turned 1! His first birthday was on July 20, and his first birthday party was on the Saturday after. Over a month ago was my open house, and after planning a lot of that (color schemes, centerpieces, etc..) I wanted to plan another! I asked my mom if I could plan Sawyer's party and she said I could! Within a week I was searching Pinterest for cute ideas for the theme I wanted to go with. My little brother LOVES Elmo. So of course, I went with an Elmo theme! I found an idea for the invites on Pinterest.

Next I started searching for cake ideas. Meanwhile, my parents didn't know the theme until the day of the party so this is all fairly secretive. I wanted it to not only be a surprise for my brother, but for my parents as well. I wanted them to be able to enjoy the day instead of having to worry about food, and such. Here are some pictures of the ideas I had gotten from Pinterest.

I thought this was such a cool idea for a banner. We took pictures every month of how old he was, and I just thought this was too cute!

I loved planning this party. He was such a good little boy too! I am so blessed to have someone in my life that is this special to me. Sometimes, I get upset thinking about how my parents had waited to have another kid right before I was leaving, but other times I wouldn't have it any other way. It's such a great feeling to hear him say "sissy" and get excited when I come home already. I sure do hope he starts walking before I leave for MSU though!

Here are some pictures from his actual birthday the night before!

It's been a while.

My oh my has it been some time since I've posted in my blog. I feel like so much has gone on since I've posted, but most of you could probably guess.

This is a picture of the dress I wore to my Senior Tea. I bought it online at Modcloth.com. I have been loving vintage clothes lately!

Yes ladies and gentlemen, Alexa Stanton has graduated from high school! I feel like the week before graduation absolutely flew right by. I can also say that I was incredibly nervous to give the closing speech in front of over 1,000 people. I don't know what I was thinking! It turned out very well though :) 4 of my good friends and I decided to do something that has never been done at a graduation. If you have ever been to a basketball, or football game for Lakewood High School, you would know that the student section does something called "rowing". I guess you could call it a viking tradition. Once I was done with my speech, 4 of my friends came up to the bottom of the stage with me and I announced that I would like my class to row one last time. I can't explain how cool it was to see my whole class lock arms and row together. At the end of the row we yell "5, 4, 3, 2, 1!", and we all stood up and threw our caps into the air. Here's a video of my speech and our rowing.

After graduation was what our school calls Project Graduation. Basically, our class piles onto a bus and we are taken to a secret destination :) We ended up going to the Grand River in Lansing and we all got onto a Ferry! The Ferry was so cool! There was dancing, and food, and it was a lot of fun. It was kind of like the last hoorah for our class. After the Ferry our advisors took us to The MAC. It's basically like a YMCA, but cooler :) There was swimming, tennis, volleyball, basketball, and of course, snacks.

Right after Graduation, Spencer wanted to take me to Grand Haven for my first time so that's what we did on Memorial Day! I had a blast!

The next thing to look forward to after graduating was my Open House! Knowing me, I wanted everything to be perfect, from my dress, right down to the type of candy in the dishes. One might say they would've thought it was my wedding if they didn't know better ;). It turned out really great! The theme for my open house was more of a garden theme if anything. The colors were yellow (my favorite color) and white. I wore a blue dress, with a necklace which was a picture of me when I was a baby. I wore pearl earrings which my parents gave me as a gift before I graduated, and I also wore a new Fossil watch that my boyfriend, Spencer got for me!

So some big news for me recently.. The plan throughout my Senior year was to go to MSU to become a Registered Nurse. Plans have changed since about the week after my open house. I am now going into the Arts & Letters program at Michigan State University and majoring in Apparel & Textiles. I hope to get a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and aspire to become a Fashion Designer :)

Currently I am working no longer at Viking Chiropractic, but I babysit two afternoons a week, and every morning until 12 I work in the Onion Field pulling weeds with my pals! It's tiring because of the heat, but at least it's with my friends!

Last Day, 153

Today was my last day of high school. My final and last day. So many emotions ran through my mind today. I had so many good talks with so many great people. I am going to miss high school, I am going to miss the sporting events, I am going to miss walking through the halls, but most of all, I am going to miss the people. My friends, teachers, classmates have always been there. I'm no longer going to see the people I usually see every day. How sad is that? Everyone has to go through it at some point.

It's time to close the chapter in my life that has gone on for 12 years now, and open a new chapter that will be college. I will meet so many new people who will soon become my new family at MSU. It's very exciting, and overwhelming, to think about the future.

Day 152- Science Club

Ladies and Gentlemen, I finally got to go on a trip for Science Club! On all of my scholarship applications, it asked for clubs and activities I was in, and Science Club was one, but I had never really done anything with it, all I knew was that I was in the club. Today, we went to Tyler Creek and examined bugs. We got to wear waders and walk through the river with nets scraping the bottom of the creek and scraping logs as well! It was surprisingly a lot of fun!

These are some of my wader pals on the trip!

This is a cray fish with eggs (don't worry we didn't keep any large animals)

Even though I was only at school for an hour today, I still dressed up.

Day 151- Bold Colors!

BOLD BOLD BOLD! I think this outfit is just bold. Bright pink shorts, with a royal blue shirt! I love it. On the shirt sleeves, there are little black belt like things scrunching the short sleeve, which I think ties together the black belt and black heels. Also, I decided to curl my hair today! I mean really curl it!

I realize I'm not in the middle of the door today by the way.. but the sun is up now this early in the morning and happens to shine right in the spot that I take my picture which is why yesterday's picture turned out so crappy!

Day 150- Last week

This is my last week of high school. That is just absolutely crazy to me. Everything I've been working towards since kindergarten is coming to an end! I never thought I'd be graduating in what seems like this short of a time. Any who, I'm trying to go out with a bang this last week. I've been wanting to wear this dress for a while, but either weather won't work out, or I have something going on where I can't wear a dress.

Task #11- Honesty

task #11

My task this week was to be honest. This was probably not a good idea. This past week was not good what so ever. This were just going wrong left and right. I am not sure if this is to do with Honesty, but I tried to be honest all week, which come on, I don't think anybody can be fully honest for a week. I just don't think I'm going to keep this full-on honesty thing going..

Da 149- Class Competition Prize!

As most of you may know, I am on Student Council! This meant I had to help set up for our Senior Class Competition Prize! Last year they had the chance to go to Craig's Cruisers, but this year we had to keep it in the school... Boo :( We had pizza, a Euchre tournament, a movie in the auditorium, and an ice cream social! I also taught Mrs. Saunders class some Spanish earlier in the day as well.

Day 148- Even more car troubles!

Today was rough, I'll tell ya that right off the bat. I forgot to set my alarm last night, and so I woke up at 7:30 which is when school starts. I woke up and hurried to get ready when I realized I forgot a permission slip at the school that I had to have my Mom sign, so around 8:20 I headed up to the school to get the slip so I would have time to get it signed and come back to school by 8:40. I parked at the front of the school, and went inside to get my permission slip.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned this in past blogs, but my car door handle is broken again, and I can only get in my car through the passenger side door.. awesome, I know. Any who, I walked back out to my car to race home to get my permission slip signed, when my car wouldn't start. I was in the front of the school, with my car just sitting there, making an awful sound as I tried to start it. I tried it for about 5 minutes, and finally brought myself to go inside to tell our secretary. She called some of the auto boys down and I went and waited in my car. I saw them come out, and told them I was the girl and talked to them about how my car is really screwed up and one of them put the key in and turned it and she started right up.. Talk about embarrassing.
By the time I left the school, the next hour had started but I still had to go home and get my permission slip signed. I came back to school about 45 minutes before lunch. Which leads me to my next event of the day. I spilled milk all over my outfit. I left 4th hour to go home and change so I didn't smell like rotten milk when I went to teach Mrs. Keiffer's 2nd grade class some Spanish!
I had a nice time teaching the kids some espanol. Tonight is also the night my mother and I started our golf league. We didn't do too shabby either!

Day 146- Lemons

My shirt has lemons on it today. Pretty neat I think! I like this shirt a lot. I decided to wear all bright colors today. I guess you could say I'm color blocking. I feel like these colors are all solid, even the shoes. I guess every color is solid, but I feel as though the outfit today are very definite colors. I'm not sure if that makes sense to you, haha, but it does to me!

Day 145

I feel as though whenever I wear this shirt, looking at a picture of it seems like an optical illusion. I don't know if it's the stripes, or the fact that it's see through or what, but I feel that way! You will be seeing me wear my glasses for the next few days :(  something is wrong with my contacts making my left eye really blurry! I have an eye appointment Thursday to hopefully get that all fixed!

Day 144

Today was a pretty good day, great day actually! My picture was taken for the Portland Federal Credit Union Scholarship, so that was exciting. Today was also the day that Spencer and I have been dating for half a year, so that's cool too! We went on a nice little date tonight to Carabas and to see the movie 5 year engagement which I recommend you see! I thought it was really funny! Today was just an all around great day!

Day 143

Today was a shorts kind of day for me. I haven't worn these to school yet, but I really like them. I think they could pass as high waisted, or regular shorts, so I guess I could see what type of style I'm feeling for the day and just go off of that!

Day 142

Today I tried something I saw on Pinterest, and it worked, which I was happy about. If you have a Pinterest, you may have heard of the Sock Bun. Well, it really is as easy as they say it is! I decided to be somewhat lazy today and wear leggings, but I still think leggings are stylish and cute! I also threw in my new glasses from last weekend.

Day 141

Well, I saw in the weather it was supposed to be 70 and sunny. I was disappointed coming out of the school today! It wasn't too sunny at all, but it wasn't that cold either. I wore shorts today, and they're a shade of my favorite color! My favorite color is yellow, and although this isn't my preferred choice of yellow, I think it's a nice color for shorts and looks nice with the color brown.

PROM

Hello, and welcome to my Prom post. I will start right out with saying I had an absolute fabulous time. For those of you that don't know, I went to Prom last year, but sprained my ankle the night before, so I had to attend Prom on crutches. Not a pretty sight, trust me. This year I was so excited to go to Prom, injury free!

I will start by telling you how I was asked to Prom. I think it's cute, and it's meaningful to me, but may not be to someone else. Let me just say that I love sweet tea's from McDonald's! LOVE LOVE LOVE! I always go inside and put ice in all the way to the top of my Styrofoam cup, and then fill 'er up with sweet tea. Spencer knows this. When we were heading into Lansing, he stopped to get me a sweet tea. He told me he'd go inside because he knew how much ice I wanted and I thought that was nice. Hours later when we were done shopping, we were at his house. We had cosmic brownies and milk. He was holding onto my tea for a while, until he finally let me have the ice! I opened up the lid, and started eating it. A few minutes later, I noticed a wrapper in my tea. I looked at him and asked him what it was and he said he didn't know. I figured it was a Cosmic Brownie wrapper, and so I got "mad" and yelled at him to tell me what was in the cup. I grabbed what I thought was a wrapper out of the cup, only to find a plastic bag with a note inside that said, "Will you go to Prom with me?" and had a box that said yes, and a box that said no. Spencer put this note in the tea when we stopped to get it earlier that day. I thought it was very sweet.

I started my day out yesterday at CMU for our Spanish III competition! I was in the skit. We competed in 4 events, the skit, interpretive reading, song, and dance. We placed 1st in the skit, interpretive reading, and dance, and 2nd in the song! I bet Mrs. Roessler was quite proud :) Since we had to travel all the way to CMU that meant crunch time on getting ready for Prom. My mom, friend Kelsey, and I left CMU at about 12:30 which got us home around 2:15. I quick showered and the gal that did my hair & make up, Cyndi Johnson headed over. She got started on my hair and boy were we cutting it close! Spencer ended up coming over at 4:30 to pick me up, and I didn't have my dress on, or my make up all done yet, so he just had to wait outside :)

We went with a fairly large group to Prom, which I think just added to the enjoyment! There was 18 of us, which made it nice for pictures, and a fun time at dinner! We ate at the Twisted Rooster, and after our dinner 8 of us on one end of the table decided to get the dessert that 8 can eat! It was so good, best dessert I've ever had I think. The Cheesecake had a marshmallow topping that was about 3 inches high which was so creamy and sweet! I think everyone that had some can agree with me on this.

After dinner we headed to the dance, which was just awesome. I had such a good time with Spencer, and the rest of my group. We danced the whole night! There was also a photo booth there which we could go and take pictures all we wanted throughout the night, here are some fun ones we took :)

All around, my night was fantastic, and I owe a lot of that to Spencer Palmer. He was an absolute gentleman and I couldn't think of anyone else I'd like to spend my Prom with.
